What Is Activepieces?

Activepieces is an open-source (MIT licensed) workflow automation platform with 12,000+ GitHub stars, positioned as an AI-first alternative to Zapier. It provides a visual drag-and-drop workflow builder with 450+ pre-built integrations covering CRM, email, messaging, e-commerce, and more.

Since mid-2025, Activepieces has added native AI agent capabilities: an AI SDK for building custom agents, MCP support with 400+ servers, human-in-the-loop approval steps, and an AI Copilot that helps build workflows in natural language. All 280+ pieces are automatically available as MCP servers.

The tradeoffs: Activepieces is significantly slower than n8n for high-volume scenarios (a batch of 77 concurrent requests took 2 minutes vs. 20 seconds on n8n). Individual integrations have fewer triggers and actions than n8n equivalents. RAG capabilities are limited, and there is no embeddable chat widget.
